Ponyboy has his brothers and his friends that he can count on, and they are his real family, but there isn't much else he can count in a rough town in Oklahoma. Even with his own brother Darry he feels like he doesn't belong. Living on the poor side of town, and having to deal to constantly deal with the vicious gang of Socs from the other side of town. Him and his friends know what to expect, but one night all that changes and their lives change forever.
Ponyboy feels that Darry doesnt really like him cause he always yells at him and tells him that he needs to do better, and to focus more, and that he doesn't trust him out in town alone he thinks he is always nagging him because he doesn't like him, do you think he doesn't like him, or he is just watching out for his younger brother?
It's not that he doesn't trust him or doesn't like him. I think Darry yells at ponyboy because he cares very much for his younger brother. The people who yell and get angry at you for not performing your best usually care the most.

ReplyDeleteTrue, yelling and constant nagging does appear harsh in the eyes of Ponyboy, but the yelling always contains something about Pony's safety, or something he could do better if he tried. But Pony doesn't see that Darry only wants the best for him... If Darry truly hated him, he would beat him and yell at him for no reason, probably kick him out too, but there's always a reason for his tough actions. It's harsh love; not hatred.
